The Handbag Museum in the centre of Portoroz in Slovenia is a relatively new attraction in the luxury tourist resort on the coast of Slovenia. On display are several hundred handbags from the 18th century to the present day. Anyone interested in ladies’ handbags should definitely visit the small museum.

You can only find handbags for women. The oldest ones are from the 18th century, the newest ones only a few years old. The bags are very different. Completely different designs, materials, colours, shapes and sizes do not allow visitors to get bored. Female museum visitors in particular are fascinated by the many great handbags.
There is also a showcase with tools used to make handbags. Unfortunately, most of the signs on the bags in the Handbag Museum of Slovenia are only in Slovenian. However, according to the friendly employee at the cash desk, this should change soon. The new handbag museum is still under construction, and signage in English is planned (as of the end of 2019). The Ladies’ Handbag Museum opened in early 2019.
In front of the entrance, there are a few more handbags that have been made recently in Slovenia by different artists. They come from Maribor, Ljubljana and other cities. You can not only look at these bags, but also buy them.

In Slovenian, the museum is called “Muzej Torbic”. Torbic is the Slovenian word for handbag. The Italian name of the bag museum is “Museo delle Borsette”.
To our knowledge, there is only one other handbag museum in Europe, in Amsterdam. Worldwide, we found another exhibition of this kind in Seoul (Korea) on the internet.
